Fun Fact Friday, Wk 44

Howdy All

Here’s to another Friday ….they sure do come round fast ! See below your weekly fun fact taking you deep into the tropics of the plant kingdom this week !

There aren’t many black flowers in the plant kingdom, especially ones as striking as the black bat flower. This alien-looking plant is so-named due to its unusual black / dark purple inflorescence and the shape of its bracts, which resemble a bat’s wings. Projecting from the centre of the 12in (30cm) inflorescence are numerous stalked flowers. Hanging around them are whisker-like leaves that extend over 2 feet (60 cm) in length.

This weird plant is found in the tropical jungles of Southeast Asia.

Enjoy another warm and sunny weekend 🙂
