Located on the top floor of Jersey Airport’s departure terminal, the new No.1 Lounge spans approximately 549 m² and accommodates up to 148 guests, offering panoramic runway and sea views. Designed to reflect Jersey’s natural landscape and local identity, the lounge blends signature No.1 Lounges elegance with island-inspired ambiance—including curved furniture, warm lighting, and a serene, boutique-hotel atmosphere.

The Brief
Commissioned by No.1 Lounges and developed in partnership with Resident Architects, Leaflike was entrusted with delivering an interior planting scheme throughout the lounge. The goal was to enhance guest comfort and wellbeing by introducing curated greenery that ties into Jersey’s coastal character, supports a sense of calm, and enriches the lounge’s varied zones—including the Orangery, library corner, bistro, and TV lounge.
.

The Solution
Leaflike created a harmonious planting strategy aligned with the island’s aesthetic and No.1 Lounges’ refined hospitality:
-
The Orangery: A lush focal environment featuring potted coastal-inspired plants and shrubs, designed to evoke Jersey’s wild flora habitat. Statement greenery and layered underplanting framed seating clusters and reinforced the space’s greenhouse-like character—a central calming retreat within the lounge.
 -
Library & TV Lounge: Mid-height planters housing shade-tolerant foliage such as Philodendron, lush ferns, and sculptural foliage enhance quieter zones. These green ‘nooks’ create functional separation while softening architecture and absorbing ambient noise.
 -
Bistro & Grab-and-Go Area: Table-level plant vignettes and aromatic herb pots—such as lavender, rosemary, and seasonal blooms—introduce sensory moments while guests dine or work, bridging function with biophilic delight.
 -
Circulation & Work Zones: Scattered pots with clean-leaved, hardy species and sculptural foliage draw movement through the space and offer visual respite in a compact layout.

The Results
- Elevated Guest Experience: The greenery created micro-environments within the open lounge—offering sensory relief, visual interest, and communal calm. The Orangery, in particular, emerged as a standout zone—a botanical mini oasis overlooking the runway.
 - Design Cohesion: The plant palette reinforced the lounge’s soft colour scheme, curved furnishings, and coastal textures, seamlessly integrating with curated materials such as Jersey limestone, brushed brass, and natural textures in furnishings.
 - Sense of Place: By echoing Jersey’s natural beauty—from coastal shrublands to tranquil seaside vistas—the planting scheme grounds the space in local identity and offers travellers a meaningful connection to the island before take-off.

Leaflike’s interior planting strategy transforms the No.1 Lounge at Jersey Airport into a calming, nature-inspired sanctuary. Through sculptural planting, aromatic accents, and carefully curated green zones, the design elevates the guest experience across functional areas—reinforcing the lounge’s identity as both a premium travel lounge and an authentic reflection of Jersey’s spirit. Collaborating with No.1 Lounges and Resident Architects, Leaflike demonstrates how thoughtful biophilic design can enhance hospitality, wellbeing, and brand significance in airport environments.
